Ukraine: I believe, I am not alone

“I believe, I am not alone” was the title of the 4th Youth Meeting of the Mukachevo Diocese, Ukraine, which took place in Svalava. This significant event is always connected with the Parish feast day on August 15th i.e. the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This year Fr. Edward Kawa, Franciscan from Boryspol near Kyiv was the spiritual director of the meeting.

During the Holy Mass young delagates from diverse parishes brought gifts in the procession: a Ukrainian flag, traditional Ukrainian embroidered shirt, a candle, a mantle (symbol of St. Martin, Patron of the Diocese), a mobile phone, a broom with gloves, bread and wine. The participants were divided in two groups: while one had dance lessons, the other listened to a conference. After the evening Eucharist they took part in the Way of the Cross through the streets of the town. Each participant had a little cross made of twigs. The next day the crosses were brought to the altar in the procession with gifts and placed on the Ukrainian flag as a sign of sufferings caused by the war.
