Nitra, Slovakia: Another church entrusted to the Salvatorians

On June 4-5, 2014-08-12 the Salvatorian community in Nitra was officially visited by Fr. Piotr Filas, the provincial Superior of the Polish Province SDS, accompanied by Fr. Bogusław Loska, Vicar Provincial of the Province. An important point of the visitation was the meeting of the Provincial Superior with Mons. Peter Brodek, General Vicar of the Diocese of Nitra on behalf of the Most Rev. Viliam Judak, the Ordinary Bishop of the Diocese.

During the visit the Provincial Superior signed the Agreement with the Diocese of Nitra, in which the church of Saint Cyril and Methodius in Nitra was entrusted to the care of the Society of the Divine Savior, Polish Province. Starting July 1st 2014 the church became a separate pastoral center in rank of the rectoral church. The Agreement is binging for five years and both of the parties are already willing to prolong it.

It was in March this year, when the Ordinary Bishop of Nitra proposed to the Salvatorians taking the church under their care, which testifies how the work and presence of our Confreres in Slovakia has been appreciated. The Polish Salvatorians began their work there in 2003. They provide pastoral ministry in a religious chapel, in a hospital and a hospice, and to the religious sisters. They are also involved in giving spiritual retreats and the vocation ministry.
